Getting ready for the

NyICECATS'

10 Year Anniversary Season

A Message from the President of the NyICECATS organization

First of all kudos to all coaches, volunteers and administrative staff who have made our organization a staying power in NY Youth Hockey.

When my friend Michael Baron and I founded this organization in 1999, we hoped that we could lay a foundation for the sport in the community, not in our wildest dreams did we imagine that this organization would inspire hundreds of youngsters to pick up this truly great sport.

It has been a great ride for me, from the day I tied the laces of my 6 year old son for his first game to today when he scored a top shelf goal in a High School game and is going to play for the USA Hockey team in this years IIHF all Jewish Hockey tournament in Metulla, Israel. It has been great not only to see my own son grow with the challenges he faced but to see a whole group of kids grow up into responsible and very likable young men, who developed their character in no small part because of the adversary they faced on the ice. I am sure they treasure the memories of a 6:00 AM game at a frigid Staten Island rink as much as I do.

We have grown exceptionally, thanks to great individuals like Jamie Lassner, Steve Gurewitsch and Martin Cejka, who have devoted countless hours to the program over the last years, but also thanks to you, the parents, relatives of our players who spent the better part of your weekends freezing at various ice rinks in the area, cheering our teams on, tying skates, bringing snacks and water for the players and helping in every which way to ensure a great experience for our kids.

We are facing difficult times, and as much as hockey is a team sport, where one player sticks up for his team mate, this organization will show the same spirit and we will sincerely work so that every child in our organization can lace 'em up and play.

There will be some changes in locations, ice times etc , but overall you will find that we will rather increase the on ice times than decrease it. Our focus has changed more to the younger children and although we hope for strong Bantam and Midget  teams in the near future, we do understand that the focus of our older teenagers changes as High School demands more and more from them.

I am looking very much forward to this coming season and can't wait to see excited youngsters go out on the ice wearing our 10th anniversary jersey.
