About Us

Mission Statement

NY Icecats is an New York City based youth ice hockey organization committed to offering children competitive recreational and travel hockey programs, with coaching from top professional instructors. Our schedule is arranged to accommodate Sabbath observant families, with no games or practices on Friday evenings or Saturdays.

History

The NY Icecats program was founded in 1999 by parent coaches, as a not-for-profit youth hockey organization. The goal was to provide a meaningful hockey experience to children from Sabbath observant families that cannot play or practice hockey on Saturdays. The program started as a pure learn-to-skate Sunday session and over time developed into an organization that accommodates children of every age, skill level and religious background.

Today, our travel teams compete in the Hudson Valley Hockey League (HVHL) against other NY/NJ based travel teams, while our recreational teams play in the Kips Bay Cup League as well as non-league games vs other local organizations.

Our teams have competed successfully within the HVHL, at Lasker Rink, Riverbank, Chelsea Piers, and Icehouse leagues and tournaments, as well as travel tournaments in Philadelphia, Boston, and  Washington D.C.
